Less than a year after the release of the Google Chrome Browser, the announcement of the new project by web titan Google, its new Google Chrome OS, is now causing much Hype and speculation. The release date of this new OS will be around the second half of 2010 and the so well accepted browser is a key part of this project.
Google will try to center the Chrome OS experience in web-based applications, with an easy and simple interface, with the promise of Security, Speed and Simplicity. Built around its browser, the idea is reaching the web in seconds and trying to get the interface out of the way of the user, in what they call "an organic way" to experience the web. They have said that current Operating Systems are much too complicated, and with duplicity of functions and compatibility problems with hardware or software this tends to get worse; operating systems also get slower with the passage of time and use without apparent reasons.
The core of the project is based around Linux, but only to get access to the data (using it as firmware). It then uses its native applications like the Google Chrome Browser with some modifications to run local applications outside the web.
One of the focal differences is the distinction between the current browsers (Mozilla Firefox, Explorer) and Chrome; Firefox and Chrome can open multiple tabs, but in Mozilla these are different threads of execution running in the same address space; in Chrome the processes are separated, so one error or crash can't affect the other sessions.
Built around the browser without extra components guarantees this OS will be faster and more stable. The majority of the applications will be created, handled and executed on the web, making third party applications developers an integral part of the OS.
Another aspect of the project is to work within the "data cloud" of Google services (Google Docs, Gmail). Your documents and email could be set to be sent or modified without an active internet connection and when your connection is reestablished they will synchronize automatically. All the new applications for Chrome OS are compatible with other Browsers from other OS.
It seems that this OS has a primary market in Netbooks, because this kind of device's primary use is to surf the web. The current tendency is their growth in sales, and their makers are trying to place the Netbooks at cheap prices. But this can only happen if the promises made are kept: Security, Speed and Simplicity.
