Sony Ericsson C902 review

Sony Ericsson's new flagship Cyber-Shot phone lives up our high expectations. This is an outstandingly good camera phone with a 5 megapixel camera with face-detection autofocus, LED flash, and easy to use camera controls. It also packs in a music player, FM radio, 3G HSDPA, Bluetooth and loads of memory. In addition it's a superslim stylish handset available in Black or Red. We have deducted one star because of occasional freezing and crashing in early releases of this model.

The C902 from Sony Ericsson is part of the 'C' series - the 'C' presumably stands for Cyber-shot. This series is similar to the 'K' series and marks the latest extension to the range of camera phones that continue to highlight Sony Ericsson’s success in mobile telecommunications. The higher end of camera phones are generally highlighted by an effective camera complimented by a lavish screen – a characteristic that has ensured high popularity over the years, almost simultaneous to Sony Ericssons other standout range, the Walkman or 'W' series.

Measuring a rail-thin 10.5mm thick, the HSDPA blazing C902 has unceremoniously dethroned the LG Secret as the slimmest 5MP camphone on the planet. It’s like the K810i has gone on hunger strike while simultaneously pumping iron. But while it may be lean, its torso is still incredibly solid with a nice heft behind it.

The C902 doesn’t deviate from previous Sony Ericsson camera phones. The quality and reliability of its features is exceptional, outstanding if a little slightly predictable. Its design and interface is crafty, sophisticated, neat and user friendly – essentially a commonality amongst all Sony Ericsson phones. What sets it apart from most, however, is its dextrous and highly amusing Cyber-shot™ camera. Let’s take a quick look at this and its other fine attributes.

Sony Ericsson must also have been watching too many espionage movies because the C902 sports a nifty spy camera type slider action. Pull open the top of the phone and the lens is revealed, firing up the snapper within a couple of seconds. We wonder if frequent usage may loosen the mechanism but it appears firm and resilient enough.
