Apple has been churning out the releases of betas for the latest iPhone OS, 3.0, on a bi-weekly basis since it was announced and there's no slowing down. Just today, iPhone OS 3.0 beta 4 has become available, except this time it brought a friend; iTunes version 8.2 (pre-release) has become available to developers, and is required to install the new mobile firmware.

Apple has released its iPhone OS 3.0 beta 4, just weeks after a previous iteration. Alongside the release, Apple has launched an iTunes 8.2 pre-release version needed to update to the new iPhone OS 3.0 beta software.

In terms of the iPhone OS, you've got your usual fix of speed improvements and enhancements. There is something new, though; in the 'Settings' of iPhone OS, the new 'Store' entry now features your account details, rather than a screen with nothing but 'Store' on it. If there are any other changes that turn up, expect this article to be updated accordingly, so keep yours eyes peeled.

As for iTunes 8.2, the app now allows users to play music on their computer while updating their iPhone or iPod touch with new software. More interestingly, it also warns that it will check a connected device to see whether it’s registered to the developer program prior to installing the latest OS 3.0 beta.

iTunes 8.2 pre-release does not have any real noticeable changes so far, but there is something interesting; MacRumors pointed out that in the legal section of the software, there are now references to the Blu-Ray technology, meaning that the recent storage media may be supported by a Mac near you in the not-too-distant future.

A "Store" settings pane on the iPhone is now populated with iTunes account information, and legal copy associated with the About window in iTunes specifically mentions DVD and Blu-ray metadata, which could mean playback support in the future.
